Fraud Prevention

Check out these tips and tricks to protect yourself against fraud, scams and identity theft.

  • Be aware of unsolicited emails or websites that may ask you for personal information. Please know that Upstate Federal Credit Union will never send emails or text alerts asking you for account or Debit/ATM card information.

  • Only download files from sites you know and trust.

  • Make sure your anti-virus is kept up to date.

  • Update your computer software regularly! This includes windows updates, operating systems, common programs such as Adobe, Java Script etc.

  • Always use strong passwords. Try to use 8 or more characters and include numbers, letters and symbols. It takes a hacker an average of 3 minutes to crack common passwords.

  • Sign up for transaction alerts for your online accounts.

  • Be skeptical about free trial offers.

  • Do not keep your social security number with you. If your purse/wallet is stolen, the thief may be able to obtain your social security # which could be lethal to your credit.

If you feel that you have been a victim of Identity Theft, call the credit bureaus immediately to place a fraud alert or freeze on your credit report.
